Maui Electric Gets New President

On May 1, Sharon Suzuki will take over as president of Maui Electric Company (MECO). Current president Ed Reinhardt will retire after 10 years as president and 26 years with MECO. Suzuki is currently MECO's manager of renewable energy services. Maui Electric is the sole provider of public electricity in Maui County and a subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Co.more

Bailey House Museum Gets New Grants

Get ready to party outside at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku. The Maui Historical Society has recently accepted a $7,000 improvement grant from Maui Electric Co. to complete an outdoor lighting project. This is a continuation of electrical improvements for the aging and historical building that began in 2008.more

The royal family of Qatar, apparently striving for art-world credibility, purchased a Paul Cezanne painting ("The Card Players") last year for the equivalent of about $250 million, which is twice as much as the previous most-expensive painting sold for.
