Upfront NewsMay 02, 2012 | 11:32 AMby Jen RussoIn a Hawaiian protocol ceremony led by Kumu Kealii Taua a few days after Earth Day, executives from the Four Seasons Maui planted an Iliahi (sandalwood) tree on their property to signify their commitment to the environment. It was part of their successful year-old worldwide campaign called 10 Million Trees. The Fours Seasons Maui has also – in cooperation with the Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC)–used the campaign to support tree planting on Kahoolawe. |
Upfront News 2May 02, 2012 | 11:34 AMby Jen RussoAfter 12 years, plenty of blood, lots of sweat (cuz it's Lahaina) and too many tears, the West Maui Skate Park is now open to the public for skaters (county officials held their grand opening on a recent Wednesday morning–a dubious choice, given the fact that most kids were in school). |

“A shell crashed ashore. In the dun-colored houses along Kahului’s waterfront, stevedores and their women heard the gun again, like a door slamming, and again the crash of the shell. The Jap fired ten rounds in all. Then the submarine disappeared in the night. Announcing this attack on an undefended, unimportant cane-&-pineapple port, the U.S. Navy reported: no casualties, negligible damage.”
