Readers Sound Off On Best Of Maui and Eh Brah and People Who Bash Old Skaters

July 25, 2012 | 10:08 AM
BLAME THE VOTERS! I am appalled that your newspaper would list Big Beach as the Best Swimming Beach on Maui (Best of Maui, July 19, 2012). Are you truly unaware of the number of people that have been paralyzed at Big Beach? We have had so many patients young, old, tourists and residents that will never walk again after being tossed by a wave at Big Beach. Your article lists only the beauty and none of the dangers.more

No Cigar Smoking on the Beach

July 25, 2012 | 09:22 AM
You're here on vacation–great! You're at the beach with your wife–awesome! It's a weekend and all the families are out in full force. And here you are, on your honeymoon and what's the first thing you do when you settle down in the sand? Light up a big fat cigar?!?! Look, I have nothing against a quick cigarette smoke on da beach (as long as you throw away the butts) or even a little greens behind the bushes, but a two-hour cigar around families and non smokers is taking it too far brah. And what was up with you glaring at all the people looking at you? You were on a public beach, not a private club. Will you please go home now? more

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22) Dear Leo, you've finally realized that life will never be perfect—and that's a good thing. It gives you something to hope and strive for, which is what makes life fun and worth living. It's boring about five minutes after you've gotten everything you want. Luckily, while on your journey you've also found the ability to appreciate all the sweetness that currently fills your existence, and to mostly ignore the bad. That's one of the keys to your overall happiness, and overall, awesome news. Hang on to that, and "bad weeks" will become mostly a thing of the past; from here on out, the spectrum ought to run from "pretty good" to "downright awesome." more
