We are creatures of convenience and with locations in Kihei, Kahului and Lahaina you don’t have to go far to find them. My favorite item is the burrito al pastor, served traditional style with cilantro and onions. They make it fast and authentic. Islandwide, 808-872-9525. JR
Address: 333 Dairy Rd., Kahului, HI 96732 Phone: 808-872-9525 MauiTime readers know that bigger is not always better when it comes to their favorite eateries. Case in point: Amigo’s. While they have multiple locations, in Kahului, Kihei and Lahaina, the restaurants themselves are rather diminutive. Don’t be deceived, though. Their menus are anything but. They prepare their steak, shrimp, fish, chicken and pork in a dizzying array of choices. Not to be outdone, the bar menu offers somewhere around 15 different kinds of tequilas, beer—imported and domestic—and the traditional island drinks. So you can pair your chile verde with a Mexican beer, your shrimp taco (one of my favorites) with Patrone tequila or your enchilada al pastor with a mai tai. This is Mexican food at its most authentic and reasonably priced.

Their daily specials on burritos, tacos chimichanga and nachos are always a good way to go, but pretty much everything on the menu is tasty. Perhaps the best thing about the place is that you can eat at Amigo’s in Kihei, Lahaina or Kahului. Amigosmaui.com. @jenrusso Runner-up: Pinatas
