Calling All Hoarders and Trash Artists - In an attempt to raise awareness about the global marine debris issue, the Kaho'olawe Island Reserve Commision (KIRC) is giving away tons of marine debris (literally–or is it litter-ally?) that they've collected over the last year on the island of Kaho'olawe. But you've gotta be able to haul it away today. Is your hoader head spinning with ideas for a masterpiece or five? Ours are! We'll see you there... Please visit kahoolawe.hawaii.gov or e-mail cking@kirc.hawaii.gov for more information.
Reuben Cantere Skate/Surf Art Show - If you've noticed–and love–Kihei artist Reuben Cantere's work on the walls of Wailuku's MauiThing, or on the surfboard sign at the South Shore Tiki Lounge, you'll be thrilled to know an exhibition of his latest work kicks off tonight with a special event at Tiki's (where DJ Jay.P brings the noise, to boot). Cantere considers the skate park at Kalama Park his second home, and his work's inspired by the Southside's skate and surf scene, plus a recent trip to Tahiti. No cover. 8pm. TUESDAY, DEC. 13
AC/DCember: Highway to Heal - "Let there be rock!" Sure, this event scores major points for being so cleverly named, but the best attribute of this three-night tribute to Australia's AC/DC is that it's a benefit for Mauian Merry Tamashiro, who's bravely battling lymphoma. Hosted by local comedian Chino LaForge the events feature the talents of the isle's biggest-balled (lyrically speaking) of Maui's musicians. Begin "rocking all the way" tonight at Kihei's Stella Blues Cafe, and keep the party going Wed., Dec. 14 at LuLu's Lahaina and Thu., Dec. 15 at Kahului Ale House. And remember, "for those about to rock, we salute you." All shows 9-11pm.
