MAHALO FOR YOUR MAHALO

Mahalo for your endorsement of my re-election to the State Senate ("2012 General Election Endorsement Edition," Nov. 1, 2012). Enjoyed reading your take on the other races and county charter and constitutional amendments too. Hope the voters in Maui County will turnout in record numbers.

LIKES OUR TAKE ON KAWIKA CROWLEY

You wrote, "we want to see more candidates like [2nd District Republican Congressional candidate David Kawika] Crowley, who live like normal people and aren't afraid to speak out about what they truly believe" ("Candidate," Oct. 25, 2012). I agree. If you don't mind me repeating something, I just submitted the following to another news site that covered Crowley: it echoes your sentiments strongly.

I think it's been very poor form for her [Democrat Tulsi Gabbard] to deny his efforts to meet her in debate. How anyone can run for a national level public office today and refuse a public debate and still have a hope of winning an election is beyond me. We've all seen how important it is to put candidates for office in a situation similar to what they face in office: having to stand up to opposition and defend their ideas and stands publicly. There's no way that simple set piece interviews and public statements can be any substitute.

Crowley believes in what he stands for, and I actually don't agree with quite everything he stands for. But at least he's got the courage to forthrightly pronounce and be willing to defend his stances.

NEITHER CAN WE!

Mr. [Anthony] Pignataro, all of us in the alcoholic beverage industry on the mainland love your work in the LC Watch column ("Gifts of Aloha," Oct. 25, 2012)! I can't wait to see what happens next!

WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED

We have been most appreciative of the opportunity to enjoy your newspaper for the numerous years that we have been blessed by living on this grand island. There have been times in the past when we had the thought to send you our thankfulness yet it is your Oct. 18, 2012 issue ("Linda Lingle Strikes Back") that caused our inspiration to actually take action.

The creative and artistic cover quite literally compelled us to immediately devour this issue. Many have said, "you can't judge a book by its cover" however, this cover really attracts attention. Our congratulations to you for discovering, nurturing and displaying such a creative and compelling message.

CORRECTION

In our Nov. 1, 2012 list of 2012 election endorsements, we mischaracterized the Republican candidate in the 10th District State House race. That candidate is Chayne Marten. We regret the error.
