None Do LobsterFest Better Than Makena Beach Resort

It's hard to resist any dining experience that ends with "fest." Makena Beach and Golf Resort's Lobster Fest is one of the best surf and turf deals I've come across. For less than $40, you get a three-course meal focused on one of the ocean's tastiest crustaceans: lobster.

Executive Chef Marc McDowell is committed to his garden-to-table experience at the resort, but growing and tending to his garden on the Makena property isn't easy. "I can pretty much only grow what the deer don't like to eat," he told me during a recent garden tour. "See those fences there? They still keep coming back." Luckily there are plenty of herbs the deer like to avoid, and Chef McDowell incorporates those wonderfully into the dishes and drinks on the Makena Beach Resort menu.

Your three courses begin with a salad. Mine featured a lobster tail with blueberry and soy bean, covered in vanilla dressing. It was a surprising grouping of ingredients, but was also delicious. The tail was encircled with crunchy noodles, making it amazing to bite into.

The exquisite main course four-ounce lobster tail is served with a fork-tender petite filet mignon and port wine reduction. The sides of sweet potato puree and garden-grown baby carrots were fantastic.

The third course is a beautiful presentation of creme brûlée three ways: vanilla traditional, mango, and Kona coffee. The Kona coffee was our table's favorite, and is topped in fresh berries, but the mango was amazing, too.

The lobster fest is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Molokini Bar and Grill at Makena Beach Resort. You can also have your fest paired with wine for an additional $20. They do a Friday night Seafood and Prime Rib Buffet, Saturday night Asian Buffet and the popular Sunday brunch. Reservations for lobster fest start at 5:30pm–just call 808-575-5888 or visit makenaresortmaui.com.
