Baker is a reliable Democrat, if only a moderate one. Though she scores very low on ratings sent out by conservative groups like the National Rifle Association and Small Business Hawaii, she recently won just a 64 out of a possible 100 rating from Sierra Club Hawaii (in her defense, she strongly supported those who fought against the old Hawaii Superferry, saying that it needed to comply with the state's environmental laws). Like all candidates running for office anywhere near South Maui, she supports the construction of a high school in Kihei. "Since I began to represent South Maui in 2002 I have made it my top priority to secure funding to build Kihei High School," states her own campaign website (rozbaker.com), which is both reassuring and depressing (2002 was a decade ago). Still, she possess a tremendous amount of political experience culled from winning election after election...
