SKINDRED
"BABYLON"
|
March 10, 2005 From the ashes of the legendary reggae-metal band Dub War, Skindred fuses metal, dancehall, punk and drum & bass into incendiary thought grenades. Imagine the Bad Brains in a battle of the bands with Faith No More and you would be close. Benji's rapid-fire vocal delivery, with its heavy Jamaican patois, stops and stutters, screams and roars; from a whispering threat to a bellowing howl, just when you think he is out of syllables, out comes another barrage. The guitars are a battery of noises, whammy-pedal histrionics and death metal power chords that punctuate the dub-style bass playing and the busy-as-hell drumming, making up one of the most original and exciting records that I've heard. —Lava Records 2004 [STEPHEN R. HART]
