Back at the Drive-In

Saturday, 5:30 p.m. at MCC

May 26, 2005
[FILM] I realized this morning, as I sat on my porch listening to the birds chirp, smelling the flowers and wearing a big daffy grin, that the whimsy of the hot summer is upon us. It is high time to take advantage—time to get out the grills and the floaties, take a dip… oh, and you know what else you can do? Go to the drive-in! Now it doesn't get much more whimsical than that.

This Saturday, MauiFEST Hawai'i and Maui Community College will be hosting not one but

three

films, along with live music by Uncle Boy Kanae and friends. Plus, there'll be a special appearance by Sam Sushi and Pulehu BBQ. Yummm… I love it when they show up places! So you can listen to some tunes, go to the food booths and then veg in your car and watch

The Incredibles

—that animated flick about a crime fighter turned insurance adjuster.

They're also showing

Bhutan

, a preview of Tom Vendetti's film on the country of, well, Bhutan (soon to air on CBS) and

The Devil at 4 O'clock

, a Frank Sinatra/Spencer Tracy adventure movie shot on Maui in 1961. It's about a convict and a priest-turned-alcoholic who are trying to finish the chapel at a leper hospital before the volcano erupts. They just don't make stories like that anymore! And who doesn't like seeing Frank in his prime? Good stuff! Plus, it's only five bucks—don't bother with the math—that's $20 bucks for you, three friends and a car. Sweet. Gates open at 5:30pm at Maui Community College. [REESE QUICK]
