Honoring King K

Sat., 9 a.m. in Lahaina

June 16, 2005
[PARADE] Did you know that out of 13 billion dollars allocated for culture and recreation by the State Dept of Accounting not one dollar could be spared for any outer island Kamehameha celebration? Thanks a lot, Lingle! That is no way to honor the great King that united these islands. At least Aunty Doll Aricayos, Aunty Crystal Alboro with the assistance of the Lahainatown Action Committee have, since 2000, organized Maui's own grass roots celebration. This year's floral parade and ho'olaulea is themed Kupaianaha Ka Hana a Kakou I ke Alu Like (Together We Achieve the Ordinary), and will feature over 70 horses and gorgeous pa'u riders representing all the islands. Don't miss this celebration that's, well, fit for a king, under the banyan tree after the parade.
