Picks of the Week

Fourth of July

Monday, 12-5 p.m., Center Courtyard of Whalers Village

June 30, 2005
[HOLIDAY] Fireworks, Shmireworks. There's a ton of free and fun stuff for kids to do in Ka'anapali! Activities include arts and crafts, such as the annual Keiki Coloring Contest, visor-making with foam shapes, stickers and stamps and dino puzzles for making mini-dinosaurs. There'll be inflatable rides on the oceanfront lawn, holiday face painting and carnival games like Bottle Knock, Quarterback Challenge and Bean Bag Bear Toss. Geez, they never had that stuff around when I was growing up. Plus, Feather Duster the Clown will entertain visitors with balloons while Keith Brenton and his Bag o' Tricks will be working magic along the walkway. Okay, now that sounds a little more familiar…

The bigger kids will enjoy the Ka'anapali Classic Car Show, stationed along the Ka'anapali Parkway with more than 60 exotic cars from 1916 to 1960. And the Whaler's Village stage features the following performances:

12-12:30 p.m. Hawai'i Yo-Yo Association Stars demos

12:40-1:40 p.m. Hula dancing

1:45-2 p.m. Prizes and Giveaways

2:30-3:15 p.m. A Touch of Magic with Kenn Serrano

3:30-4 p.m. Contest winners announced, and more

Of course, don't forget the mini-"bombs bursting in air." When the sun sets, Front Street will be closed to traffic until 9 p.m. for the old-fashioned Independence Day fireworks show. The deal starts at 8 p.m. and can be seen from Lahaina Town. For more info, visit www.kaanapaliresort.com. [LINDA GAMPERT]
