Nostalgic for the '50s?

Friday-Saturday 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, 5 p.m., at Iao Theater

July 07, 2005
[STAGE] Pump Boys and Dinettes: Satisfy that itch with this musical romp that will have audiences cheering with its blend of rock 'n roll and country & blues. Maui OnStage presents the production of this Broadway revue directed by Jim Hutchison. It's set on Highway 57, between Frog Level and Smyrna, where a gas station and a diner called the Double Cupp stand. Five dudes work at the gas station, spending their days fixing cars and drinking cold beers, while the Cupp sisters serve up their home-cooked meals with zeal. The musical is a tribute to life by the roadside, celebrating the life and love in a lil' southern town. Hutschison brings his years of experience as an actor, director, writer, producer and choreographer in theater, television and motion pictures to this musical romp. He's been the Artistic Director of Diamond Head Theatre for 18 years and has directed Tale of the Allergist's Wife, earlier this year with Maui OnStage. Tickets are $18 adults and $16 seniors and students. Sunday performances are a bargain matinee with all seats $12. Advance tickets are available through July 31 at the MOS ticket outlet "If the Shoe Fits," just a few doors down from the Iao Theater at 14 N. Market St. Wailuku. For more info, call 242-6969.
