Employee of the Week

EMPLOYEE OF THE WEEK

Kristin Kennedy

August 04, 2005
Server, Hard Rock Cafe

I was expecting it to be hard to find a job in Lahaina because when I arrived it was summer and all of the seasonal travelers would be looking for jobs as well. Luckily, I was in the right place at the right time when I applied at Hard Rock and I started working the next day.

I had about four years experience working in restaurants during college, doing everything from serving tables to bartending to managing. I had enough experience so I was able to start as a waitress.

I see my job at Hard Rock fitting perfectly into my life in Maui. I am here to have a good time, take things easy and not get stressed out. At the restaurant I can be myself and they let me keep my nose ring in, which is rare for any business. Fortunately it fits in well with our rock and roll theme.

I have been working here for a little over a year and have gotten to know the restaurant pretty well. My shifts all go pretty smooth. I really like all the people I work with.

When I was working in Providence during college everyone I met was from Providence but here all the employees and customers are from somewhere different. There is a very eclectic mix of people. I hear a lot of interesting stories.

My college degree is in equine business management. That is basically managing businesses that manage horses. It's still a business degree but I had horses on all my books. I have a part-time job at the Iron Wood Ranch as a trail guide. I love going out with the horses and coming back dirty and smelly. It's my sanity job.
