August 04, 2005 [PEACE ACTION] Exactly 60 years ago this Saturday, Aug. 6, the United States dropped a 15-kiloton nuclear bomb—the first ever used in wartime, but tiny by today's standards—on Hiroshima, Japan. About 90,000 people died from that bomb—most immediately, but a few thousands in the months following from radiation poisoning. From that day forward, we've lived in a world where a single nation can possess the power to wipe just about everybody else out in less than a day. This weekend, author and playwright Lane Nishikawa will speak about this and how we might think about peace. The event is free. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
