GHOSTS OF THE GREAT HIGHWAY

I have to admit, I avoided the Red House Painters while I lived in San Francisco. Don't ask me why—I just did, okay? Mark Kozelek, the singer from the Red House Painters, is Sun Kil Moon now. And from the first song I was hooked: "Cassius Clay was hit more than Sonny Liston, some like K.K. Dowling more than Glenn Tipton." You will get my full attention if you write a melancholic song referencing the guitarists from Judas Priest over a slow galloping acoustic guitar. The second song, "Carry me Ohio" also is absolutely stunning in its simplistic beauty. A variety of moods are created on Ghosts of the Great Highway, but this is the perfect soundtrack to lying in bed with your loved one on a rainy day. —Jet Set Records 2003, By Stephen R. Hart
