Wicked Entrancement

Friday, 7 & 8 p.m. at Cafe Marc Aurel, Wailuku

October 27, 2005
[DANCE] Do you remember the first Alien movie? So you must remember the classic scene of the baby alien ripping out of the guy's stomach. That's what I always think of first when I think of belly dancing. Second, I think of sex. Weird combination, I know. But, the former is actually appropriate—being that it's that spooky time of year. Now that I think of it, the latter is appropriate as well—due to the fact that Halloween gives me, as well as most ladies anywhere near my age group, a legitimate reason to go out in public dressed like a total slut. But that's neither here nor there. The Belly Roll Dance Company is presenting a special "Halloween Shimmy Nights," featuring the newly created Rock-a-Belly dance troupe. Apparently, they got a little crazy with the costumes, perhaps more scandalous? Yay! There'll be a black light performance, as well as a finale in which the dancers become possessed by evil spirits and have to appease them with the trance dance. That's right, baby—pound that evil right out of you! No cover. [HEIDI KING]
