Westside Snowdrifts

Saturday, 5 p.m. at the Banyan Tree in Lahaina

December 01, 2005
[FESTIVAL] Christmas on a Hawaiian beach is always an interesting thing. The temperature never drops below 70 degrees, it's nearly always sunny and the only time it snows is when a bunch of townspeople get together and get some snow made and then dumped somewhere that kids can play in it, like, oh, the Banyan Tree in Lahaina. Anyway, this weekend is one of those times. To celebrate the time of Santa Claus and sleigh bells, the LahainaTown Action Committee got Valley Isle Seafood to make five tons of snow—trust me, you don't want to know how—and ship it over to the Banyan Tree. Then they're going to light up the tree, build a six-foot snowman and do some other holiday stuff for the kids. To get in, you've got to bring a canned food item. For more information, call 667-9194 or go to www.visitlahaina.com. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
