Issue 9.25: Cunning Lingle
What Governor Linda Lingle said in a Dec. 7, 2005 press release announcing she was releasing $11.8 million in new state highway funds, $7.9 million of which are for widening Haleakala Highway:
|
December 15, 2005 "Our Administration is committed to investing in road repairs such as these to preserve the integrity of our highways, relieve traffic congestion, and provide needed safety measures for our residents and visitors."
What she didn't say:
The Lingle Administration has been in power since 2003, and it's only now worried about "the integrity" of our highways? Have they heard any of the bitching that goes on concerning the proposed Paia and Lahaina Bypass Roads? Man, people have been asking for those roads—neither of which is very long—for decades. Traffic heading into both towns starts to crush spirits at about three in the afternoon, and no one seems to be doing anything about it. Who knows if those roads will ever get built.
