DOESN'T CARE

December 22, 2005
Hello Anthony, Mr. Maui Time Weekly, I read your article on DOCARE ("Those who DOCARE," Dec. 8, 2005) and it's totally inaccurate! And DOCARE does NOT know the law, okay, and DOCARE doesn't do shit, okay, and I know this for a fact, okay, cuz I know because I worked hand in hand with them. So you're writing something that paints a pretty picture of people who are not doing their goddamned jobs. So I think before you write an article you should, like, make sure that they know the laws, okay, cuz number one they do not know the law, okay? Number two, they don't do their jobs, okay? So this thing you're writing is basically all bullshit and I'm really disappointed to read you, the Maui Time, and come up like this with a big bogus article about DOCARE. And, you know, it's terrible, man. It's an insult to, you know, all the local people on Maui that you do this and with disrespect to the environment. And also you need to know that DOCARE is not a lawful authority: DOCARE is just a branch of the United States Business Corporation, okay. And the state and the DOCARE does not OWN any land, okay. So you better get your story straight.

The Editor responds: First off, reporter Cheryl Ambrozic-Mooz wrote the article in question, not I. Secondly, in the absence of specific charges to back up your pretty serious allegations, there's not much I can say except to reiterate our reporting that the state's Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) is the overworked, under-funded enforcement arm of the state's Department of Land and Natural Resources. We never reported that either DOCARE "owns" any lands because they don't, though I'd love to know more about this "United States Business Corporation" of which you speak. Sounds pretty shady to me.

DOES CARE

I would to comment on your weekly astrology column and your writer, Mr. Mason McGraw. I find his outlook and passion for his writing very reassuring and uplifting. I read the astrology column (Astro Mana) every week like other people read the sports and business sections faithfully. I look forward to his column every week. Keep up the great writing. Also I enjoy reading your weekly. Very informative, educational and bright.

Just a quick note in these hectic holiday times to thank you for your coverage on our store, Banana Wind, in the most recent issue in the West Side Culture article (Local Gift Guide, Dec. 15, 2005). We feel flattered to be in this article and appreciate the publicity! The happiest of holidays to you and your staff. MAHALO!
