Thar She Blows!

Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m across the Maui shoreline

February 23, 2006
[ECO] Every year the Pacific Whale Foundation does a Great Whale Count to find out how many whales are lollygagging in Hawaiian waters. Anybody can do this, though it does require getting up before 8 a.m. on a Saturday and then standing on a beach at one of the 13 official "counting stations" and staring out over the ocean. Then, for the next few hours, you get to say things like "There's one" and "There's another one" while, someone presumably records this information in an official Great Whale Count ledger. What's not to like? To volunteer, call 249-8811. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
