Playing Outdoors

Saturday, 6 p.m. at MCC

February 23, 2006
[DRIVE-IN MOVIES] This week, March of the Penguins is making its "outdoor Maui" premiere, which is appropriate considering our near-arctic temperatures as of late (what is it now, like, 70 degrees?! Brrr…). But let this be the time to cuddle up with your woman, man or dog, as you witness the tuxedoed birds' quest to find the perfect mate and start a family, "a journey that will take them hundreds of miles across the continent by foot, in freezing cold temperatures, in brittle, icy winds and through deep, treacherous waters." Hunh. Can't be any worse than trying to find love at Tsunami's every weekend, right? Then it's on to Fishbowl (pictured below) a local film from the same director of Picture Bride and based on the novel Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers, about an awkward teen girl, her fickle best friend and the evil popular girl. And wrapping it up for the evening is Wahine O Ke Kai, a film about Donna Kahi Kahakui, who paddled from Oahu to Kaua'i to Lehua to Ni'ihau—nearly 200 miles—in a matter of days, in 2004. Admission: $5 per person, $20 per car, keiki FREE. Call 573-5530.
