It's taken nine weeks, but Maui Land & Pineapple has finally clawed its way back into the top slot. It's really awe-inspiring when The Maui News does a story on pesticide-contaminated wells and never mentions the name of the company responsible for putting the junk in the water in the first place, but that's what happened on March 16 when Reporter Harry Eagar detailed how the County Council Water Resources Committee voted unanimously to tell the Department of Water Supply not to use treated water from two contaminated Hamakuapoko wells in Paia, Haiku and Sprecklesville. It was, of course, MLP who sprayed the pesticide DBCP all over the island in the 1970s and 1980s, and it's MLP that has to help pay for DBCP cleanup as part of a 1999 lawsuit settlement. MTW
