Man, Hawaiian Telcom is in trouble these days. Is it any surprise they recently reported lower than expected earnings, given their very recent, very comical billing problems? Even with 120 new temporary customer service reps, the company still can't get to every customer's complaint about bad billing charges. At first, all Hawaiian Telcom did was waive April and May late fees for customers with problems. But now things are so bad that the company is now telling customers to just pay what they feel is the correct amount on their bills and ignore whatever they feel are bogus charges. This is why rich and powerful Washington, D.C.-based global equity firm Carlyle Group—with close ties to Saudi royals and former President George H. W. Bush—bought out Verizon last year? MTW
