July 13, 2006 [FILM] Paul Mulshine, a columnist for the Star-Ledger of Newark, NJ, wrote recently that, "The tobacco companies kill Americans at the rate of about one World Trade Center tragedy every five days." And it's widely known that the most famous cowboy of Marlboro cigarette advertising, Wayne McLaren, died of lung cancer at age 51. Now, these facts aren't funny. But Thank You for Smoking, a darkly comedic portrayal of the depths the tobacco industry will go to keep the hope of cigarette consumption alive, is wickedly so. Aaron Eckhart, Katie Holmes and a cast of greats, bring to life through unscrupulous characters and intelligently satirical dialogue, both sides of the idea of commerce, freedom of choice, and corporate morality in a tight, cylindrical package of hilarity and insight.
