Have you heard those new radio spots for Alexander & Baldwin, which takes over the top slot this week? You know, the ones where A&B Properties Vice President Grant Chun talks and talks about how the company is so selflessly building all those homes around Maui and donates money to all these charities and has always looked out for the island and its people? Oh man, that's good pub—especially since Chun was one of the Gang of Seven that wined and dined five Maui County Councilmembers—that would be Bob Carroll, Mike Molina, Joe Pontanilla, Riki Hokama and mayoral hopeful Dain Kane—at Mama's Fish House in early March. None of the A&B execs or councilmembers said anything was illegal or unethical about what Molina later described to The Maui News as a "courtesy call where [A&B] expressed their appreciation for our being accessible to them." In addition, Chun couldn't explain to the News why councilmembers Jo Anne Johnson, Michelle Anderson and Danny Mateo weren't invited. Sounds like a great radio spokesman to me! MTW
