Talking Durty
Sunday, Aug. 20, 7 p.m. at Livewire Cafe in Lahaina

August 17, 2006 [POETRY/MUSIC] I like poetry readings fine. If done well, with a solid lineup of braver performers, they can be funny, uplifting, inspiring and so provocative they have your braining spinning for hours after you leave. But if I had to list one complaint it would have to be that they're long on talking. Talk, talk, talk—that's all you ever hear at a poetry reading is talking. Good thing there's another installment of An Affair With Words coming up. Not only will you hear some of the island's best spoken-word artists, but you'll also get to relax to the turntable stylings of DJ Durty. As usual, Maui Time's own Miss Krista will emcee. Refreshments will be available, but a $5 donation is suggested. Livewire Cafe is located at 612 Front St. in Lahaina. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
