This Week in Legendary Reggae Superstars… Pato Banton!

Friday-Saturday, Sept. 8-9, 10 p.m. at Casanova

September 07, 2006
[REGGAE] Most of you reggae heads are already familiar and love the legend known as Pato Banton. His life-affirming reggae is infectious, spawning such classics as "Don't Sniff Coke," and over the past 20 years, Banton has toured and recorded with the likes of Sting, Peter Gabriel, UB40 and Steel Pulse. But after getting nominated for a Grammy for his 2000 album Life is a Miracle, he took a seven-year hiatus from touring. But he wasn't just lounging around in his swank Birmingham pad—Banton started a music program certified by British colleges for underprivileged and at risk youth. He'll be backed by California's Mystic Roots Band, who were recently voted Best Reggae Band by the L.A. Music Awards. Tickets: $20 advance, $25 at the door. Casanova is located at 1188 Makawao Ave. in Makawao. Call 572-0220 or visit www.myspace.com/patobanton for more info.
