October 12, 2006 [WORLD MUSIC] Here's our chance to go on a weeklong trip around the world without ever leaving Maui: There's Brazilian jazz with Renata and Bita on Thursday (Oct. 12), 7:30-10:30 p.m. at Cafe Marc Aurel—no cover. The legendary Algerian techno-world-beat DJ Cheb I Sabbah on Thursday (Oct. 12), 9 p.m. at Hapa's—$15 cover, with Haidai visuals, bellydancing and DJ Raphael opening. Middle Eastern bellydancing on Saturday (Oct. 14), 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. at Cafe Marc Aurel—no cover, featuring Melanya and Saahirah of Raqs Shakti Bellydance with live percussionists. Also on Saturday (Oct. 14), a Brazilian bash featuring Bande Dende at Charley's, 10 p.m.—$10 cover. There's classical Indian sitar music on Tuesday (Oct. 17), 7:30 p.m. at McCoy Studio Theater, MACC—$28 (call 242-7469), with father-daughter sitarists Manilal and Mita Nag (right), and Ananda Gopal on tabla.
