October 26, 2006 [SPACE MUSIC/VISUALS] Laurie Anderson is one of a unique breed found mostly in New York—The Performance Artist. She is a composer, poet, photographer, filmmaker, electronics whiz, vocalist, instrumentalist and she actually wrote the entry for "New York" in the Encyclopedia Britannica. Much of her multimedia work has been presented in major museums, she's won numerous awards for songwriting, and she is the first-ever artist-in-residence for NASA. That's right—NASA! Maybe she really is from outer space. Her latest tour, "The End of the Moon," will combine stories and new music for violin and electronics "to create a picture of contemporary American culture, including internal dialogue on issues like consumerism, aesthetics and spirituality." Tickets: $10, $28, $38, half-price for keiki. The Castle Theater is located at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului. For more info, call 242-7469.
