House of the Rising Sum

Saturday (Nov. 25), 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Bailey House Museum

November 23, 2006
[CULTURAL BENEFIT] It takes a lotta money to keep one of Hawai`i's oldest buildings in existence. Think of all the activity that's gone on since 1833: the Bailey House once served as the Mission station for the Wailuku Female Seminary and was occupied by Edward Bailey and his family until 1888. Now the Museum features gardens filled with native Hawaiian and missionary-era plants, Hawaiian artifacts, missionary furnishings and paintings—important stuff you don't get to see just any-ole-where. Such a prestigious cause needs valuable entertainers, like Uluwehi Guerrero, Lei`ohu Ryder and Richard Ho`opi`i, for instance. But they need backup, too, in the form of food booths, arts and crafts, cultural demos and a silent auction. Tickets: $10 in advance, $15 day of show, keiki free with paid adult. Call 244-3326 or visit www.mauimuseum.org.
