Mind Body Spirit

Personal Journeys and Transformations

January 25, 2007
I recently asked some friends how they try to stay healthy. One said he'd stopped eating red meat six months ago, and now walks three to four miles every day. Another likes to ride her bike to work, avoid eating after 8 p.m. and "preserve" her liver with Vodka and pomegranate juice. Yet another has a long laundry list of ways to increase longevity:

"No fried, greasy, fattening things; drink as much water as I can stand, avoid sodas completely, limit alcohol, try to exercise, try to go to bed early, meditate, avoid people who could add stress to my life, take my vitamins, limit my caffeine, absolutely no drugs, try to focus on the good things in my life and be grateful, and last but not least, tackle the issues in my life that are the most painful and work them out."

The following stories in this Mind Body Spirit Issue tell how some of us are trying to enhance our lives by adding or letting go of something. Whether it's learning how to strengthen our resolve, or discovering how to block the inhibiting forces of depression, or simply finding out how to gain more positive energy, these are stories that depict the journeys we sometimes take in order to better our lives.

No matter how we try, we all want to be healthier people. Now if you'll excuse me, I have an underwater sacred dream alchemy yoga class to attend.
