Save the Na Wai `Eha!

Thursday (Apr. 26) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cameron Center in Wailuku

April 26, 2007
[STATE HEARING] Local water activists are calling this hearing the last chance for the public to speak their mind on the question of designating the Waihe`e, Waiehu, Iao and Waikapu Streams (Na Wai `Eha) "surface management areas." In plain English, that means giving the state Commission on Water Resource Management authority over the streams and forcing everyone from the County of Maui to the Wailuku Water Co.—which today controls the streams and diverts much of the waters to Central Maui sugar fields. Having the state come in and take over is considered a major step towards restoring the old stream flows. For more information, call the state water commission at 984-2400, ext. 70234.
