May 17, 2007 [EDUCATIONAL HIKE] Stop complaining about not knowing anyone nice in politics and take a tour with one. Led by Sierra Club Hawaii chairperson/Maui County General Plan Advisory Committee board member/former candidate for the East Maui County Council Lucienne de Naie, this historical tour of Makena is sure to be hot, sweaty and breathtaking. The one-mile hike takes troopers from the first Makena parking lot to Keawalai Church. We're all hoping that anyone planning on attending can trace their own way back to their car—so take water! Sunstroke is a killer. Not that it's considered an arduous hike, taking three hours to go just one sight-filled mile with plenty of stops along the way. Kids are welcome and there's an ocean to cool off in. If you ever needed an excuse to go to the beach, this is it. Free. Call 214-0147. [KIRA SABINI]
