May 24, 2007 [PRO-PEACE ART/DANCE/FUNDRAISER PARTY] "This collaborative effort brings together an array of street performances, poetry slams, peace dances, movies, lectures, and many innovative views of war and peace," raves Tim Garcia of Maui Artists for Peace. In a response to the seemingly endless presentation of pastoral sunsets and pristine waves produced by Maui's lovely and possibly out-of-touch painters, a collaboration of activist artists has put together a party co-sponsored by Maui Peace Action and The Studio Maui. Artist Tom Sewell elaborates, "Artists can no longer produce just pretty paintings and whimsical sculptures. We have a president who has sent over 3200 American troops to their deaths. Many more Iraqis have died. Our reputation, as Americans, in the world has seriously deteriorated and we can no longer all stand by letting this happen." Wear your outspoken t-shirts and participate in this return to reason. Suggested donation: $10. For info call 808-575-9390 or visit online at www.thestudiomaui.com. [KIRA SABINI]
