Maui County Council Land Use Committee
Thurs., July 5, 1:30 p.m.

Field Trip! It's to check out the "change in zoning for the Maui Business Park Phase II project (Kahului)," somewhere "200 yards beyond the end of Hookele St., just past its intersection with Pakaula St." The zoning for this area is/was agricultural, heavy industrial and residential but the plan is for just light industrial to move in! Better bring your own snacks, because I doubt if any will be provided.

Maui County Council Land Use Committee
Thurs., July 5, 3:30 p.m.

After the field trip you should always discuss what you've learned, and this is the committee's follow-up meeting. Robert Sasaki of A&B Properties, Inc. wants "approximately 179 acres in Kahului" to be legally changed from farm, factory, and residential land into work land. That's cool, but it does make me wonder about the rest of A&B's land. How many more years of federal government-subsidized cane fields do we have before the landowner turns it all, acre by acre, into things considerably less green?

Maui County Council
Fri., July 6, 9 a.m.

Looks like they're finally settling the big Jack Henry Williams firefighter union lawsuit against the county. They're also dealing with the white-collar costs on the Budget and Finance Committee. They know who keeps the underlings in check.

Board of Ethics
Wed., July 11, 12:30 a.m.

Is not posting the monthly agenda on the county website at least a week in advance of the hearing unethical? Why don't you go to the hearing and ask?
