July 26, 2007 [FILM] It's good to know I have options. I mean, instead of being that single, crazy cat lady when I grow older, I can always be that single, crazy dog lady. This is a good thing, since I'm allergic to cats. Year of the Dog is a dramatic comedy about what ensues when Peggy's (Molly Shannon) best friend/dog, Pencil, dies from what she suspects to be foul (or in this case, canine) play. Let me give you some teasers about the rest of the film: guys that come on too strong, guys that aren't interested in vehement animal activism. Gee, I wonder what else director/screenwriter Mike White sees in my future. Even so, I think Pencil is a silly name for a best friend/dog. I'm thinking more along the lines of Arnold. But, if they're bitches (crazy dog lady=more than one dog), maybe Bonbon or Mochi. Ha ha—I wrote the word "bitches." Oops, I did it again. Rated PG-13. 97 min. Tickets $10.
