Lush Acoustic Harmonies

July 26, 2007 [MUSIC] Molokai native Sashamon is gracing the North Shore with lush acoustic harmonies off his self-produced debut album, One Day Maybe. His music is a blend of reggae, rock and Hawaiian, his vocals are clear and rich, his lyrics simple but memorable. "Nectar," otherwise known as the butterfly song, is so peaceful and melodic that as I listen to it I keep getting transported to somewhere much more tranquil than my noisy office. It reminds me of camping out on some deserted beach under a blanket of stars, sleeping all night to the soft sound of the waves. Before there was a debut album, Sashamon had a demo with songs like the catchy "Japanese Squeeze" that made huge waves on radio stations across Hawai'i and (thanks to the help of some very supportive professional surfers) countries like Tahiti and Guam. Sashamon began his musical career as an elementary school boy on Molokai's Westside, strumming along with elders on his 'ukulele. His music is still mellow, his style is laid-back, and he isn't too hard on the eyes, either. $10. To hear songs from the album and some live recordings visit www.sashamon.com. [JA]
