Bomb Talk
Monday (Aug. 6) at 7 p.m. at the Hongwanji Buddhist Mission in Kahului

August 02, 2007 [WAR TALK] Our president—being the student of international affairs, military history and geopolitics that he is—loves to scare the hell out of people at home and abroad by talking up the virtues of "nuculear" bunker busting bombs, for use against our myriad cave-bound enemies. For an alternative perspective on the use of nuclear weapons—especially since Aug. 6 is the 62nd anniversary of our nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, killing 100,000 people in the process—Maui Peace Action has brought Dr. Seiji Yamada of the University of Hawai`i John A. Burns of Medicine to explain what it was like for him to treat people exposed to radiation emitted from American nuclear weapon testing in the Pacific. The talk is free, and there will be refreshments following Dr. Yamada's talk for anyone who still has an appetite. The Hongwanji Buddhist Mission is located at 291 Pu`unene Ave. in Kahului. For more information, call 573-3255. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
