Jah Know it be Irie

Saturday (Aug. 4), 5 p.m. at the A & B Amphitheater, Maui Arts and Cultural Center

August 02, 2007
[MUSIC] Yes, another Fest. Now, this one may not have the pungent appeal of the Onion Fest or the flashy moves of TangoFest, but SoulJah Fest has got something even better… the sounds of New Zealand reggae group Katchafire. Roots music is a New Zealand passion and while these guys are huge in their home country, they've also found a big fan base here in Hawai`i. Katchafire is known worldwide for the revitalizing vibes of their unique roots style and high-energy performances. This summer concert series is a prelude to the release of a third album called Say What You're Thinking. The band has eight members from two generations of two Maori families (the indigenous peeps of NZ), they've been touring together for eight years and they've shared stages with big names like The Wailers, Third World, Shaggy and Damien Marley.  This weekend they'll be jammin' with the likes of Unified Soul, Dani Girl, Bubs and Ooklah-The-Moc. Tickets: $32, $28. 242-7469. [JA]
