Sea Wees

Wednesday (Sept. 12) 9:30 a.m., at the Pacific Whale Foundation's Discovery Center, Ma`alaea

September 06, 2007
[KEIKI] Children are like sponges. They quickly absorb all the naughty words, bad habits and annoying mannerisms around them. My little brother, for example, called our new kitten "damn, stupid cat" for weeks after she shredded my favorite sweater. Given the opportunity though, they'll also soak up the positive stuff. That's why the Pacific Whale Foundation's Sea Wees program is cool. It's a chance for impressionable little minds ages three to five to learn about sea creatures, the ocean and protecting our ecosystems. This month's watery theme, "Go With the Flow: Stream to Sea," will teach kids about the unique animals that chill out in streams before cruising out to the deep blue, and what happens to them after reaching the open ocean. They'll also get to take a field trip to 'Iao or Waihe`e stream for an up-close and personal view of the cycle of water in motion. It's a great opportunity for your little ones to learn new things, and the words they pick up are all but guaranteed not to embarrass you in front of your mother. $10 per class or $40 for five. 249-8811.
