Now, Push

Saturday, (Sept. 15, 29) 5 p.m. at the Iao Theater, Wailuku

September 13, 2007
[STAGE] I was really high both times I gave birth. The first time I labored for 14 hours at the hospital (drug free), until I finally broke down and accepted the Demerol and that one spinal anesthetic in the hopes that it would "Get this goddamn thing out of me!!" It didn't work, so I had a c-section. I was really upset about that, because it so did not go with my earth-mama birth plan. The second time I had another c-section without the labor (something about my uterus "exploding"). I could go on, but for your sake, I won't. Robin Garrison, founder of Women Who Care, is directing Birth, a play by critically acclaimed playwright Karen Brody depicting the birth stories of various women. Eight Maui actresses will be on stage, including our much loved Kathy "Tita" Collins. Proceeds from the show will benefit Women Who Care–a non-profit organization that supports positive birth experiences and offers financial assistance to those in need. Everyone, male and female, has a birth story. Celebrate the miracle of life and check it out! Tickets, call 283-3500.
