OUR BAD

September 20, 2007
Hi, I just want to make a comment on your Aug. 30 column about the Maui Top 10 (The Maui 10). First, people here on Molokai, we don't get your paper for a couple weeks afterwards, so I just received it. On "The Price is not Right" in the Maui Top 10, where you mention the price [of gas] has dropped to $3.58 in Wailuku—"the highest in the state"—well, here on Molokai it's $3.89. Oh, it just dropped a few cents—it's only $3.84.9.

And Samantha Campos is still the Associate Editor or is it now Starr Begley? Change your answering machine. Thanks a lot—you're doing a great job.

-Anonymous, via voicemail

The Editor responds: Change the voicemail message?! My God, man, do have any idea what that requires? How many forms we have to fill out? I've read studies that show it's actually easier to do a full-blown Environmental Impact Statement than—what's this? Oh, I've just been told we updated the voicemail. So… there.

FROM ROYALTY, NO LESS!

Starr Begley: Needed to drop a line and let you know how much I love your column [Restless Native]. You are fun to read and I agree wholeheartedly with your "Hoochie-Mama" story written some weeks ago ("Nothin' but a Hoochie, Mama," Aug. 9, 2007). Thanks for saying it out loud!!

-HRH Diana, Queen of the World, via email

FUNNY, BUT NOT HA HA FUNNY

A minor typo, and a funny one, that my in-laws caught (because I'm from Manoa Valley) was the Favorite Radio Station on Maui (Best of Maui, July 26, 2007). Maui Time said it was Mano'a, it's suppose to be Mana'o. Well, we know what radio station that person doesn't listen to!

And I personally think it's about three radio stations that are very popular—it seems the kids like 103.3 FM and listen to Augie and then Shaggy!

-Rodney Souza, via email

The Editor responds: We corrected that typo seven weeks ago, but it's nice to see Mana'o Radio (91.5 FM) has so many fans that they're still writing in to bust our chops.

ALL GREEK TO US

Can I just say that Maui Time Weekly gets me wet? Just in case you don't hear this often enough: you guys are awesome. People should be sacrificing their newborns to you people. Nubile temple virgins should be throwing themselves at your offices, awaiting your every instruction.

You know that movie 300? That movie with the mind-blowing action scenes and glorious ab-fest? It was really about how Maui Time came into power; not so much about the Battle of Thermopylae and its repercussions. Maui Time should be ruling the world with an iron fist and stiletto clad foot. Should be, that is. Alas, too many people are stupid and Maui Time Weekly's greatness is not as revered as it should be.

You all will have to content yourselves with the knowledge that you kick ass, that people actually do read what you write and that they actually do listen to what you say over the course of the podcast [Beyond the Ink]. Just saying.

-Ynez Tongson, former Maui Time Weekly intern, via email

The Editor responds: We miss you too, Ynez.
