This wonderful little Haiku café tosses ahi with their fettuccine, pesto sauce and a little black pepper. On the side you get a small spinach salad with mango vinaigrette. It's $18, but it's also sublime and delicious. Haiku Cannery, 810 Haiku Rd., 575-9211. Open 6:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. $
JAWZ FISH TACOS
Anybody can shove some ahi bits into a tortilla with some lettuce, cheese and salsa and call it a taco, but Jawz does things a bit differently, with fresh grilled ahi, steamed rice, cabbage and their wonderful pink, slightly garlicky sauce. Unless you're starving, stick with the "regular" taco, which is still so big it contains the mass of two tacos—the XL taco, which is as big as three standard tacos, is all but impossible to eat with your hands. 1279 S. CAFé O'LEI
The café's Togarashi seared Ahi begins with locally caught fish, to which it adds Japanese pepper, wasabi aioli and crisp wontons. MILAGRO'S
The blackened blue ahi taquitos hold sashimi-grade ahi, which is glazed with a blackening spices and chopped cilantro, Then they roll it all in a blue corn tortilla and deep-fry it. Be sure to top it with the fresh fruit salsa, made with pineapple, Asian gooseberry, cantaloupe, sesame seeds and chipotle pepper. 3 Baldwin Ave., Paia, 579-8755. Open 8 a.m.-10 p.m. $
