April 24, 2008 This goes out to the greedy a-hole who got all territorial when I stopped to gather ferns by the roadside you call your “backyard.” You stood there with your dog watching me, saying I was stealing your food. Not only were there no posted signs, but I’ve visited that spot may times in the past without pilikia (troubles). Wainapanapa belongs to the state! You told me I was supposed to ask before I take, but I did—because no one was around, I asked permission of Akua and the aina before I entered the area. I also know that, as a native, I am only to take what I need, which I did. You told me I wasn’t being pono, but pono also means sharing—what you don’t share, Akua can always take away. That’s why I just smiled, ignored you and apologized when I left. I hope you get the same aloha the next time you come townside.
