May 15, 2008 I was never so shocked as the other day when I was at Big Beach. There I was, minding my own business, playing backgammon with my fella while sunbathing topless. Then a group of three boogie boarders sauntered by. “Oh, didn’t you know the nude beach is over the hill?” one of the topless men had the nerve to tell me. I didn’t honor his remark with a retort. Who died and made him king? Besides the fact that he didn’t know the definition of nude, his blatant sexism pissed me off. Women have just as much right as men to be topless at a public beach, and courts here in Hawai‘i and nationwide have consistently upheld this right. Moreover, what kind of guy complains when he sees a topless woman?! If this is your idea of flirting, go back to charm school!
