Murder by Death

Red of Tooth and Claw

[CD] If you want to know how this band sounds, think of Johnny Cash's rendition of "Hurt," by Nine Inch Nails. If you need more convincing that this album is worth listening to—there's a hot, talented female cellist in the band. Adam Turla's deep vocals coupled with dark, story-telling lyrics draw up images of cowboys who have a good ole cigarette for breakfast, drink hard liquor, smile at the ladies often and fight a little too much. Like many of Murder by Death's other works, there's a theme within the album. In this instance, it's the anti-hero you can't help but admire. Red of Tooth and Claw is a great introduction album to Murder by Death.

House of Leaves

By: Mark Z. Danielewski

[BOOK] This horror novel seems like it was put together by highly caffeinated art students, given to a bunch of inebriated psychology majors and finally edited by a disgruntled English graduate, resigned to working in coffee shops. At its core, House of Leaves is a story about a haunted house. Everywhere else, though, it's filled with coded messages, multiple stories and formatting tricks that intensify the suspense of the novel. This is definitely not the easy reading you bring to the beach. Instead of heading to the beach on those windy summer days that entail having sand blown into crevices you didn't even know you had, get this book, find someplace relatively peaceful and enjoy.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Nintendo Wii

[GAME] This game could easily suck up your soul. I can barely describe the multiplayer game without the use of expletives. Sure, you're going to hear some critiques about loading times and background detail, but that doesn't mean this game is any less awesome. Super Smash Bros. Brawl offers something for gamers everywhere, from the n00b to the seasoned videogame veteran. Those who have invested blood, sweat and tears into Nintendo games will appreciate the multitude of familiar characters that appear in the game. Newcomers to the addiction will appreciate the simple controls and friendly game play. And even onlookers will enjoy the weird jerking motions many players make, in an attempt to make their characters do what they want, as well as the sudden attack of Tourette's when a character is blown off the screen.
