Hangover Hangouts

Jamba Juice

All right, the fluorescent lighting and altogether too happy people might make your teeth hurt when you enter, but you're going to need to bite the bullet. When you're hung over, not only are you dehydrated but you're also suffering from a deficiency of vitamin B12. Jamba Juice's smoothies, orange juice and subsequent boosts will undoubtedly help you feel better. Until the next time, of course. Located island wide.

Lighthouse MAUI Café

You stumble through the door, blearily. You can't be sure, but you're pretty sure something may have died in your mouth earlier that morning. Wash out the taste of overindulgence with some of Lighthouse's ambrosial house blend coffee. It's almost medicinal for that hung over feeling. Other than the yummy coffee and tasty snacks, most notable in the Lighthouse Café is their couch. Since some hangovers can last up to two or three days after the last consumption of alcohol, you might want to get comfortable. 70 East Kaahumanu Ave., Ste. B6, Kahului. 871-0875.

Grandma's Coffee House

Upcountry people really know how to party. Luckily for them, Grandma's Coffee House is located in Kula. This café is scenic, charming and most importantly, quiet. Instead of being forced to listen to the upbeat chatter of trendy teenagers, you'll be able to wallow in your personal world of misery in peace. At Grandma's Coffee House you're able to truly enjoy the natural serenity of Maui while enjoying delicious (non-alcoholic) drinks such as their chai. That is, you'd enjoy the serenity, if only the throbbing at your temples would stop. Open daily 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. 18 Wahelani St., Kula, 878-2140.

Fran's Island Grill

When the nausea has subsided a little, you're going to need to put something in your stomach, other than the hair of the dog that bit you. Fran's Island Grill is the answer to your problems. Well, one of them, at least. Order something light like say, toast, before working yourself up to a local favorite (and mystery) such as the loco moco. Open Su - Th 6 a.m. - 9.m., F-Sa 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. 740 Lower Main, Wailuku, 242-8580.

Denny's

Alcohol is a depressant, right? A stimulant like say…never ending coffee ought to bring you back to the land of the living, right? Okay, I know it doesn't work like that, but in a perfect world, it would. Denny's is the perfect place to try and get over your hangover. Not only will they amply arm you with coffee to fight the effects of that pesky CNS depressant, Denny's breakfast foods will have you ready for action in no time. Kahului andKihei, open 24 hours.
