This one goes out to the person who decided to take off after reversing into the door of my parked car at the Upcountry Pool last Sunday. While I was busy working and making sure everyone in the pool was safe, you put an office chair-sized dent into my car and sped away like a coward. Don’t tell me you didn’t know whose car it was because there was a gigantic “Lifeguard Parking” sign in front of my vehicle. If you took the time to look at my truck, you would have noticed that you didn’t put in the first dent, and probably not the last either. And your bumper only added another color to my already three-toned truck. My truck is a heap and I would have been completely happy with you simply coming in and giving me an apology. Instead I’m pissed because you took off like a guilty bandit trying to escape without being seen. Good thing there was a party next door and a lady came in and gave me your license number. The door is still open for an apology, at least until my temper tells me to take my witness and your license plates to the cops.

    take it to the cops

Just take the guy's license to the cops. You may not mind, but the next car they hit might be new. Or maybe they'll hit a person and run. My car has scrapes all over it, and nobody has ever admitted doing it. The only thing that will affect these people is a visit from the law.
