This goes out to the two (!) different people who stole my cart at Costco while I was off looking for stuff. It’d actually be kind of amazing that two other people wanted the exact same items as me if it wasn’t so damn aggravating to have to go back and pick them all out again. I mean come on, is it really that hard to get your own cart, walk around and pick shit out? Are we heading toward total anarchy here, where all the unwritten rules of common courtesy go out the window and unless something is being enforced by men in uniform people don’t feel the need to obey and respect others? Anyway, I hope whoever ended up with my stuff likes their mixed nuts and rum and spam and big bag of toilet paper. To think, someone else is wiping their ass with my TP!

I was waiting for a ride outside of the Cannery Mall and a group of illegal Mexican immigrant youths dressed in their gang style clothing were listening to loud offensive music, totally disregarding an older gentleman who was seated on a bench next to them. How dare you come onto this island and behave in this manner. I felt threatened by your presence and offended by your (f this, f that) music. I can only imagine how the older man felt seated next to you. Then I became angry that you are intruding on our otherwise peaceful space. Go home to where you came from if you cannot respect the community or our elders. Legal or illegal you are VISITING and you should show some respect! You have far better things to do with your lives than devote it toward gangs and violence. Be smart and contribute towards the community, not against it. Violence and crime will only get you a prison sentence, there's no doubt. And who within our infrastructure allows the incoming presence of illegal immigrants? I want to know.

Wow, "illegal Mexican youth" in gang style listening to offensive music. Are you serious? Listen to your self.
You just described about 80% of all youth from every ethnicity and creed. That style is fronted by all, and is not just "Mexican". Misguided or not, prejudice and racism are not better values.

wow. just wow. did you like check their papers or something? how the eff do you know they were "illegal" or even "mexican" for that matter? you are aware that many brown skinned spanish speaking people come from other coutries, right? that there is an entire continent called "south america" and a region called "central america."

and that you are either "joking" or a "rascist idiot."

    Sorry to have offended you..
    August 17, 2008 | 01:33 AM

Juan and Dee Dee, I am sorry for offending you but that was not my intention. I am angry that my peace and well being was threatened by a group of youths who have no respect for the community. I was angry that an elderly man as well as myself were being subjected to such loud, offensive music and threatening behavior. Please accept my apology for stereotyping but I think I called it correctly as I grew up with Mexican culture, I know the language. I think it is sad that Maui County has so little to offer in the way of activities for our youth. No wonder they congregate together and get up to no good. What I want to encourage is right behavior. It is a choice we need to be proactive with, to encourage. The first step in this is to identify wrong behavior. Those youths at the Cannery Mall were exhibiting wrong behavior. I will not stand by and say nothing. Are you able to say the same? How can we encourage the best in our youth?

I see your point Green Card and I am with you as far as respecting our elders-that is how I was raised by my Mexican Ohana in Mexico. When my single mother came to the U.S. with her 3 children Illegaly, not having paper work did not make us bad people-we have respect, we work and we excell in school. In fact I was appaled at how little respect Americans had for their Elders and Teachers in School. There are good and bad examples in every group and having papers means nothing as far as what kind of person you are. Judge each individual by their actions but don't condemn the whole group. Aloha
